‘Working together, to be the very best that we can be’.

Thank you for visiting the John Grant School Website.  As you will see as you navigate the site, we endeavor to place our pupils at the centre of all we do.

The school caters for pupils with complex needs, including severe learning difficulties, Autistic Spectrum Disorder and profound and multiple learning difficulties. Our age range is from 3 to 19 years of age.

The school was designated as a Specialist Sports College in July 2009. It has a number of awards that recognise the range and quality of its work, including Eco Schools and Healthy Schools status.

We are very proud to be a Specialist College for Sport and embrace active participation in a range of activities, regardless of ability. By clicking on the Sport Specialism link you will see how active and inclusive we aim to make sport for our pupils.

Our latest Ofsted report in July 2014 confirmed that John Grant is a “Good” School. Comments include…

“Pupils have good attitudes to learning and take a pride in their achievements.”

“Pupils are polite and enjoy talking to visitors. They are helpful towards one another and show respect for staff.”

“Teachers and teaching assistants work well together to ensure pupils’ good learning and progress. Relationships with pupils are good and behaviour is managed well.”

“Many pupils with autism make outstanding progress in speaking and personal social and health education. This is because staff are well trained in the using structured systems to support communication and implement these consistently across the school.”

“ ….pupils, including the more able and those with profound and multiple learning difficulties, are making equally good progress as their classmates because learning tasks, teaching methods and resources are matched to their different needs.”

Whether you are looking for something specific or would like to take a virtual tour of our facilities, we hope you find our website helpful and easy to navigate.
